Another Mother's Day

You know how hobbits have breakfast and then they have second breakfast. But the other races don't know about second breakfast. Well, like a hobbit, I have second Mother's Day, but probably my own mother doesn't know about it. You see, in the United States (and in many places in the world), Mother's Day is on the second Sunday in May. But in Argentina, where I am now, it is on the third Sunday in October. It's today!

I wanted to take this opportunity to blog about my mother. Did you know she is the only guest author we ever had on this blog? When Alrica and I were traveling with the children, all four of us would write posts for the blog. It was only the four of us though. That is until almost exactly ten years ago. It was October 15, 2016 when a post by our guest author appeared. You can read it here.

My parents flew across the world to visit us in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. We ate in a restaurant with our feet in the sand. We visited a wet market. We ate a lot of amazing fruit. We took a boat tour on the Mekong River. And my parents got to see how we lived as we were traveling.

You see, my parents are adventurers, especially my mother. She isn't an adventurer in exactly the same way that I am, but certainly apples and trees they fell from and the distance between them, it all works out. My mother has lived!

I remember reflecting once about a trip we took when I was 7 years old. We went to California. I was talking about it and said, "That was the first time I ever saw an ocean." And my mom replied, "That was the first time I ever saw an ocean too." Sounds like she never traveled? Well, she had traveled within the US. And since then, she has been all over.

I don't know how many countries my parents have been to, but it must be over thirty. My mother has a wonderful attitude about things, she sees the best in the world and in every situation. Do some things scare her? I'm sure they do, but she doesn't live her life based on what scares her. She lives her life based on what makes her happy.

So thank you, Mom, for giving that zest and zeal to me. Happy Bonus Mother's Day!
